TREK. Where does it come from? Where is it going?

Good theology is measured by healthy mission; healthy mission is empowered by good theology

The TREK team believes that good theology bears fruit in a number of ways, but particularly in the various missional efforts it generates. Healthy mission, therefore, is perhaps one of the best measures of theological quality. In the same way, healthy mission depends on good theology for its vitality. Apart from it, mission itself suffers, is limited, and easily degenerates. Missional health, on the other hand, is sustained and invigorated by good theology.

Based on this, TREK aims to resource various communities of faith (local churches) in their pursuit of good theology for the purpose of practical missional application. We are not interested simply in stimulating and engaging conversation, as appealing as that may be. The guiding question we continually have in view is: How does theology promote healthy mission in your local context? Contextual sensitivity necessarily means that we will give serious attention to the emerging culture that is more and more representative of urban life throughout the major cities of Europe.

The concept of TREK naturally evolved out of a group called Thinklings that is currently active under the auspices of Christian Associates. The intent has been to encourage the deliberate interfacing of theology and mission believing that practical ministry is most effective when it begins as a transformation of the mind. The TREK team draws heavily on our experiences with Thinklings in which a serious approach to theology is coupled with missional passion in an informal atmosphere of discussion, study, play, food and friendship.
